What Stories You Live is
An interactive story. You choose what happens next, or type what you try to do, and the next scene is written in response.
The stories are written by an AI model at the moment you read them. They are not written or reviewed by a person in advance. Two consequences follow, and both are the point of the product rather than defects in it:
- No two readings are the same, and a story you read cannot be reproduced exactly, by us or by anyone.
- The text is fiction produced by a machine. It may be inconsistent, may misremember its own events, and may produce something you did not want. It is not advice of any kind, and nothing in it is a statement of fact about a real person, place or event.
Content
Stories You Live publishes interactive fiction for adults. Some stories are horror and thriller: they contain threat, violence and frightening situations, and a character you are playing can be seriously harmed or killed. Others are romance: they contain adult romance and desire. Each story shows its own warning before its first scene, and you have to accept it before anything is written.
Because each scene is written as you read it and responds to what you type, we cannot tell you in advance everything a story will contain. If a story goes somewhere you do not want to be, close it. Nothing obliges you to finish.
You must be 18 or older to use Stories You Live.
What you may not do
- Use the service to produce material that is illegal, or that sexualises children, in any form.
- Attempt to make the model ignore its instructions, reveal the instructions it was given, or produce content outside the story — including through the box where you type what you try to do.
- Attack, overload or probe the service, or attempt to reach data belonging to another reader.
- Resell or redistribute the service, or scrape it at scale.
We may suspend access for any of these without notice.
Your stories
You keep whatever rights you have in the words you type. You are responsible for what you type.
We do not claim ownership of the story written for you, and we do not grant you exclusive rights in it either — the same model, given the same choices, may produce something similar for someone else.
We keep a copy of your story as described in the Privacy Notice, so that it can continue and so you can return to it.
What it costs
The first three scenes of every story are free. You do not need to sign in to read them.
To read on, you unlock that story. One unlock is one story, read to its ending: €1.99 for a Short story and €3.99 for a Standard one. Prices include VAT. There are no credits, no subscription and no charge per scene, and reading a story you have unlocked again costs nothing. To unlock you sign in — with Google, with Apple, or with a code we email you — so that the story stays yours on any device, and you pay on Stripe's page.
During the closed beta, a reader who came by invitation reads free.
Your right to withdraw. Before you pay, we ask you to agree to these terms and to ask for the story to continue at once. Because the scenes you paid for are then written for you straight away, you lose the 14-day right to withdraw that the law otherwise gives you for a purchase of digital content. We record that you agreed, to which version of these terms, the price you were shown and when — see the Privacy Notice.
Refunds. If a story you unlocked cannot continue because of a fault on our side, we refund it. A full refund locks the story again from the scene it had reached; a partial refund leaves it unlocked. To ask for a refund, write to the contact address above with the address of the story's page; refunds are made by hand, through Stripe, to the card you paid with.
Availability
We do not promise the service will be available, uninterrupted, or that a story in progress will always be completable. Writing a scene depends on a third-party AI provider that can fail or change.
If a scene cannot be written, nothing is charged for it and your story stays where it was.
Liability
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes your rights as a consumer, or any liability that the law does not allow to be limited or excluded — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, and for fraud.
The stories are fiction, written by a machine as you read them. We are not responsible for what you decide to do because of anything in one.
Ending your use
You can stop at any time, and you can ask us to delete your story at any time — see the Privacy Notice.
We may end or suspend access if these terms are broken.
Changes
If these terms change materially we will say so on the site before the change takes effect.
